Happy Halloween!

My two kids were Peter Pan and Tinkerbell for Halloween this year. I was so happy to find matching outfits at a garage sale, and couldn't resist their cuteness (or their cheap price!)
Peter and Tink

Tinkerbell had a ton of fun and a TON of candy at our Halloween event at church. We don't usually have candy at home, so she went nuts (and had the sugar high to prove it!)

Peter Pan wants a kiss!

Kate loved the little ducky pond, and in a split second, she was jumping in. I didn't think I had caught in on camera, because I jumped the second I saw her foot move over the side of the pool. She was ready to take a swim.

You can fly, you can fly, you can fly!
We watched Peter Pan earlier in the day, just to get in the mood, so Michael was thinking happy thoughts of flying. Being a kid is FUN!

Two Kids In Jammies In a Box

Can't think of a much better combo!
Forgive the picture quality! I have broken my camera (probably from overuse!), and have a bid on another one on Ebay, so hopefully will be able to give you worthwhile pictures soon.

Birthday Girl!

We celebrated Kate's 2nd birthday yesterday!
When did this little one grow up?

We had a fun day of celebrating. We went to the park for lunch (no park pics, as I forgot the camera!) and had Kate's favorite meal for dinner- Spaghetti.

Snuggling with Mommy and Minnie Mouse on her last day as a 1-year-old

Birthday door decorations, which they were both more excited about than the expressions I captured. :-)

This is what happened when I tried to take Minnie away so she could get dressed for bed- drama ensued. Needless to say, she LOVES her Minnie Mouse! Thank you, Scantlins, for a great gift!

Lovin' on Minnie

Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting on our "You are special" plate.

Not sure what happened to the camera, but all the cake and presents pics are over-exposed. Kate got some princess dress-up clothes and shoes, a Veggie Tales coloring book, fairy princess wings and skirt, and a Tinkerbell ball (picked out especially for Kate by Michael).
What a wonderful day of celebrating. We thank God for our wonderful gift of our lovely, sweet girl! She brings us such joy! We love you, Kate!

Guess Who Has a BIRTHDAY tomorrow?

Hint- it's one of these silly ones:
(And yes, she got stuck in there all on her own. A good place to meditate, perhaps?)

Yes, it's my precious Kate, and she will be TWO YEARS OLD tomorrow! WHERE does the time go?! Enjoy your last day as a 1-year-old, sweet baby girl!

My old Littmann stethoscope from college finally got stiff and broke.
Michael loves to play with it.

Even if packing tape was not the best choice to "repair" it. :-)

Kids in Boots

The question is- Why NOT wear boots for fun around the house?

Lobster Claws

Every time I take the kids to Giant, our local grocery store, we always stop and see the lobsters. The man behind the counter always asks if we'd like to take one out to pet it (Ewwwwwwwwww!), and once we took him up on it. Michael found this rubber band and decided he was a lobster with claws. Cute!

Wilderness Weekend, 2009

The next few posts are from Wilderness Weekend, 2009, from which we just returned. It was COLD, with highs in the mid-40s, but the rain held off and we had a GREAT time. Thanks to the Hornbrooks for taking great care of our kids while we were serving with the youth group!!

The Ropes Course

The Ropes Course was one of the highlights of Wilderness Weekend. It's a series of competitions, and the whole team has to complete the task before moving to the next event. I'm not sure if the girls' team had more fun competing or watching the boys. ;-)
First competition- the dog pile. All the team had to pile on the small platform with no feet on the ground. Cozy.

The Wall- you had to get all your team members over the wall, which doesn't sound hard until you realize you have to get the first and the last one up without help from both above and below. Bobbi was last, and did a great job being pulled up!

Those are some strong girls.

All at the top! What a great group of girls we had!

I wish I had this on video. The boys' wall was taller, and Pastor Mike dangled down while the other boys held him. TJ jumped, and Pastor Mike grabbed him and the rest pulled both boys up. Fun to watch!

This was a triangle of ropes attached to trees, and you had to get across to the other side by leaning in on your partner.

The devil's finger. You had to send a man to the top and put a tire over the REALLY tall tree. We used the help of a very flexible sapling nearby.

The rope swing was one of the most fun events. Seth Haines takes a swing.

Jon is so graceful with that Michael Jordan tongue going on.

Cardboard Canoe Race, '09

Again, we had our annual cardboard canoe race. The teens had 1.5hrs, some large pieces of carboard and 2 rolls of duct tape, and had to make a sea-worthy vessel to race in the frigid waters.

It was a good race, and came down to about a 5 foot finish.

The team on the left won. Something about those Colbrunn girls- they have won EVERY year for the past 4 years. Future engineers, I predict!

This one took in a lot of water.

Brian took in a lot of water, too. It was about 38 degrees outside. Brrr!

Here's the team breakdown:
Sam, Bobbi, Virginia, & Jessie, who were sailing in memory of Nichole, who was sick this weekend and couldn't make it. They came in 2nd place.

Kaitlyn, Casey, Brent, and Brian. The dominator did not dominate. :-)

Michael, Logan, & Jonathan. Last place, I think.

Becca, Julia, Kara, & Gabriella. I love that they put on a cardboard steering wheel!
TJ and Ryan with the USS Heracio (sic). They learned a lot from their boat design, which was slightly too long and folded in the middle.

The back of the Heracio, which had a license place (too fast for u- which actually described how quickly it sank), a bumper sticker, and a political ad. :-) Creative, boys!

Warming by the Fire

We stayed warm with the help of a few well-fed campfires, and also used it to cook our hot dogs and S'mores, so we were well-fed, too.

Hot chocolate helped warm us up, too.

Snuggling With Daddy

The kids were watching a movie with Daddy before bed time tonight.
Sweet snuggles!

Fun With Gloves

Michael found these rubber work gloves and had such a fun time with them.

He's such a goof! He loved having "big hands like daddy" for a little while.

My Cleaning Helpers

When I clean, I usually give the kids a task as well, so they will enjoy and appreciate helping.
One of their favorite things to do is to help me dust. I mean, who wouldn't love smearing lemon-scented goo all over the table? I really love that they enjoy being helpers!

Happy and Happier

I couldn't choose which picture I liked best, so you get to see them all.
