Sleepy Sweetie

I love this picture, as David looks like such a little old man. I forgot how much newborns sleep, and it's easy to forget we even have a tiny baby in the house. David is such a good baby!
We went to the pediatrician this morning for a weight check, and our big boy is weighing in at 10lb, 9oz! They were all amazed at his heftiness, as they were just optimistically hoping he would be back up to his birth weight of 9lb, 13oz. Maybe I should stop feeding him steak...

I Think I Watch Too Much Food Network

Katie was talking Michael through how to prepare her dish.

Our Favorite Things

Having spent 9 years using cheap teflon pans (in which, I'm sure we've consumed almost all of that teflon coating), I decided to get some decent cookware. After interrogating all my friends on their preferences, I purchased a set of Cuisinart MultiClad Pro Stainless Steel Cookware from Amazon. It arrived today, and, though I know there will be a learning curve on how to cook with stainless steel, I'm excited to start using it. The best part for the kids was playing in the big box it came in. Who needs toys?!

Happy 1-Week Birthday, David!

Has it been a whole week since we met you, David?! Why does time drag when you want it to hurry (pregnancy!) and why does it fly by when you want to slow it down?
David is such a sweet baby. He really only cries when he is hungry and when I change his diaper (he's modest, perhaps?) Couldn't you just kiss those chubby baby cheeks all day long?

And I needed to include a picture of all his hair! He has more than Michael or Kate had at birth, and it's a shade darker than both of theirs was, too. And it's SO soft!

Days Filled With Blessings

We've been blessed to have my in-laws here helping this week, but they leave Wednesday, so we are working on getting into a routine with just Mommy and 3 kids.
David has been getting lots of love from his siblings. Every little peep he makes (which isn't often) brings one or both of them running. They love their baby brother!

Michael shows David his muscles, and informs him that if David would eat his peas and carrots all-gone, than he could have similar big guns to show off. :-)

Today was the first day in a while that had temperatures less than high 90s to low 100s, so we took advantage of the weather and spent some time outside. David was basking in the sunshine while he napped, and the big kids played until they were officially dirt-saturated. Fun times!
My blessings are abundant, and I'm so thankful to be mom to these kids!

A Series of "Firsts" for David

David is finishing up his first week, and was able to enjoy some "firsts."
First day to "play" outside
(which also means the first day with less than 100 degree heat)
Oh, and he LOVES his paci!

First nap on Daddy

First smile (which seemed real, and he has since replicated while awake, but EVERYONE knows that newborns don't smile...)

First real bath (his cord came off at 4 days, which shouldn't surprise me since he was born at the average size of a 1 1/2 to 2mo old! Check out that Buddha-belly!)

First Cubs game
(poor guy should get used to life's disappointments early in life!)

Coming Home

David and I were able to come home from the hospital today, and were quite happy to get out!
I forgot to get his picture in his "going home" outfit, but it's a navy and yellow RL polo outfit and was really cute. Thankfully, I didn't pack any newborn outfits, as big boy would not have fit!
That yellow note was placed by the nursery nurse. We initially were impressed with David's fine penmanship at such a young age.

So this is not flattering at all, but you moms can understand the second most joyous part of delivery day- feeding the starving woman who was not able to eat all day long!

David has really enjoyed his swing since he has been home.

I just have to remind the kids to let it swing on it's own.
(We had a number of various cameras at the hospital, so I will have to track down the ones of Michael and Kate meeting their little brother for the first time. They are precious!)
The kids are really enjoying their new baby brother. We're working on loving a little more gently, though...

Some snuggle time with Daddy.
(I'm now washing all the baby boy clothes, and just put away the little pink gowns. I was so confident he was a girl. Sorry, David!)

Welcome, Baby David

Dear David,
I know I cried like... well, like a baby when I saw you for the first time, but know that those were tears of pure joy! I've waited a long and difficult 9 months to meet you, but every bit of that was wiped away the moment I saw your sweet face. We've all been calling you "baby" for a while now, but now we meet you face-to-face. We have come to know you personally and have called you by name- David Paul Blakemore. You are a precious gift, and we are so thankful for God's grace in allowing you to be a part of our family. We are blessed beyond measure and grateful beyond words!

Love,
Your Mommy

Tiny Blessings

TODAY is the big day that we get to meet our precious new baby- our new gift from God! We're so very excited, and can't wait to hold that sweet little one in our arms. I'll try to bring the info and post a picture as soon as I can- hopefully by tonight!

Family Blessings

Jon's parents were so gracious to volunteer to drive all the way out from Nebraska to come help us while we're in the hospital and for a little bit after the baby is born. We're so thankful to have them here to help us, and we appreciate them more than we can say! Thanks, Mom & Dad!!!
Michael shares a story with Grandpa while Grandpa tries to finish up his dinner.

Why Wouldn't You?

The kids thought that the built-ins would be a great place to hang out for a while. Michael ascended using "the magic way" while practical Katie just used the stool to climb up. :-)

Could He Be ANY Sillier?

This boy just cracks us up on a regular basis. Here he is doing his silly faces.

He asked me this week what a "zilla" was. I had no idea what he meant, so he expounded that "God has a zilla, but I don't know what a zilla is." He wanted to know what GODZILLA was!!! SO, so funny! I love listening to him try to reason things out. He asks so many questions and thinks I'm just a regular Merriam-Webster of definitions. 4 is a fun, fun stage!

Sharing a Snack

A little break in the soccer game for some raisins and goldfish. Gotta refuel!

Book Worm

Katie doesn't let little things like height get in the way of what she wants. She knows to use all resources at her disposal, like the bathroom stool.
Katie has been super-cuddly lately. She loves to read, and brings me books ALL DAY LONG to read to her. She begs to take a book to bed with her every nap-time, so I let her pick one, and she falls asleep every day with her nose in a book. We love this sweet girl!

Falling With Style

Michael decided to give Katie flying lessons today.
He told her that he would teach her how to fly, but also how to "fall with style" (I guess Buzz Lightyear style).

Now is that fall stylin' or what?!

Men CAN Iron

Physical proof!
I'm saving this picture for his future wife to see!

Great Reasons to Party

Michael's friend Jadon turned 5 last week- an exciting time for him. It was also super-special because it was also the official day that he was adopted by our friends Jeremy and Lindsay. You're a special guy, Jadon, and you're so blessed with a wonderful family! Thanks for letting us celebrate with you!!
Jadon's 2 grandmas help with a game.

5 big-boy candles for Jadon!

Jadon's grandpa got this way-cool water slide for all the kids to enjoy! So fun!

Kate and the little ones enjoyed the kiddie pool, though Kate did get brave and did go down the slide once.

Michael got the hang of the slip-n-slide pretty quickly, and was having tons of fun hurling his body across the lawn.

Baby News

The doctor decided today that next Tuesday, 07-20-10 will be the day that we meet our precious new baby! We're so excited to see our little one's face and hold him/her!

Happy 7-11

In addition to being my wonderful sister Hollie's birthday, 7-11 happens to be free slurpee day at 7/11 stores. After church, while Daddy was playing some volleyball in the gym, the kids and I went to get our free slurpees, the kids' first slurpee ever. They thought it was wonderful!
Katie enjoyed more on her dress than in her mouth. Thank heavens for Oxiclean!

The Bug Box

The Shultzes are spending their last week with us, and we are so sad that they are leaving. My kids won't know what to do without their cousins around! On Tuesday, we headed out to The Bug Box. Nathan is a bug enthusiast and collector, and this did not disappoint!
It's actually a ServisPros exterminator with a live insect zoo. They do classes and such for kids, too, but we decided on the self-guided tour.

Most of the bugs were in cages, but they had a couple of things that were "hands-on."

They had other things besides insects, like turtles and snakes and spiders and all sorts of unpleasant smelling creatures.

While we were looking through the gift shop, a man came in to have a dead beetle identified. Nathan was so excited to see the Herculean Beetle that the man gave it to him for his collection. Very cool!

The kids got to pick one thing from the gift shop, and Michael chose a scorpion ring, and Kate chose a butterfly ring. The lady at the counter gave them some stickers to take home, too.

It was a hard choice, though, as they had lots of cool things to choose from.

The stickers became body art.

We went to get some lunch at the mall afterward, and then did a little shopping. The kids enjoyed playing on the kiddie rides. Shhhh, don't tell them that they move if you actually put money in them...

My girlie girl was in her own little heaven when we went to Claires to let Lauren look at accessories. I have a feeling she's going to be a shopper!
