Cubs v Nats

On Wednesday, we went to DC for a Cubs v Nats game. Jon is from Chicago and is a loyal Cubs fan. For family unity, I decided to cheer for the Cubs this time.

In the spirit of things, I grilled Ballpark hot dogs for dinner before we left. All the ball park flavor, but not that ball park price!

The kids were really good, and enjoyed the game. Luckily, it was a Nats game, so we had the entire row to ourselves, and the kids could get up and run around when the energy hit.

David enjoyed his first MLB baseball game. I pulled out his pinstripes for the occasion.

We had seats out near the score board, but not too high up. I found a 40% off coupon code for our tickets, which made them even better!

Jon was all smiles because not only did the Cubs win, but they swept the series.

The big kids say farewell to the ballpark. What a fun time we had!

Sweet Dreams, Little One

I just love how David sleeps with his little chubby arms up near his face. I could just watch him sleep for hours, especially with the sweet newborn sounds he makes, too. So precious!
And speaking of sweet dreams, David has been giving me about 6 hour stretches of uninterrupted sleep at night. Then he'll eat and sleep another 4 hrs! Did I mention how sweet and wonderful this precious little boy is?!

It's Amazing What Fun Can Be Had

Interpretive Dance

Poor Little Guy

Jon makes David watch Cubs game. Maybe by the time David is Jon's age, the Cubs can manage to win a World Series...

We Love This Baby Boy!

David is 1 month today, and we really love having him in our family! He's such a good, sweet baby, and he is so easy to love. He's a big eater and a big boy (weighed in at 12lbs, 10oz at his 1-mo check-up today!), but he's been giving me a couple good 4-5hr stretches of sleep at night, eating for 10min, then right back to sleep. Last night, he went 6 hours before eating then went right back to sleep! He's been smiling for a while now, but he's now being more generous with them. David loves to snuggle, and is pretty content to just sit back and watch his big brother and sister. And he can pretty much sleep through anything (which is thanks to his active siblings!)
We're so thankful for you, sweet David!

When 1 Bow Just Isn't Enough

My girl wanted "lots of pwetty bows" in her hair. What a sweetie!

Bis Sister Love

Kate loves her baby brother so much that I have to set limits on when she's allowed to love on him (or else she'd lay on top of him with a permanent hug all day!) When he's on his blanket, she can look at him and talk with him, but she can't touch the blanket or him. She was SO excited when David reached out at touched HER, that she couldn't help but snuggle his hand.

Michael Get A Shiner

Michael was running in the playroom and fell on the corner of the toy box. He ended up with a nice black eye that has gotten more and more deep purple as the days go by.
This picture was the first day. It looks a lot worse now.

You Can't Have Too Many Blakemores

The Ohio Blakemores (Jon's brother Steve, his wonderful wife Ann Marie, and their 4 fun boys) came to visit us for a Thursday through Tuesday, and we had a fantastic time! When they left today, we were all so sad, and the kids especially didn't know what to do without their cousins to play with! We miss you guys, but are so glad you had the opportunity to come visit!
Josh, Zach, Wes, Chad, Michael, Kate, & David
Yes, that's 6 boys and 1 girl. Kate managed to maintain her girlieness despite.

Fun trampoline games ensued for the kids, and fierce Rook tournaments kept the adults entertained.

The big kids were so wonderful with keeping Michael and Kate entertained (or was it the other way around...?) Michael's expression says it all!

Josh and Michael were knights to rescue princess Kate from the dragons.

Kate (aka Tinkerbell) enjoyed her Uncle Steve very much.

The big boys were SO great with David! They helped take great care of him, but I think David enjoyed snuggling with his Auntie Ann the most. He told me. :-)
We had such a fun time, and can't wait to see them again at Christmas time!

True Confessions

Tuesday was a long day. I exchanged perfume for spit-up and baby-boy urine for hair products (yes, David got it ALL THE WAY up to my hair!), I refereed about a million arguments between the big kids, and I decided a nap was more important than a shower. When it came time to go to bed, David decided that he wanted to eat every 1 1/2 to 2 hours that night. I'm realizing more and more how dependent I am on God's grace and the Spirit's control to make me to respond in love and kindness, even when I'm not well-rested and my nerves are shot.
I had someone at the store today look at my 3 kids (who were all behaving very well at the time) and say to me, "I HOPE you are done!" After wiping the shocked look off my face and putting on my polite smile, I thought of how wonderfully blessed I am to have these little guys to care for. It's not a burden to be a mom, it's a joy and a blessing. I love and ENJOY my children every single day! I hope that, in the midst of changing diapers, breaking up arguments, cleaning the potties, & cooking yet another meal for these little ones (and my wonderful husband), my heart will be filled with only gratefulness at the wonderful gifts I have received!

Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward.

Growing TOO Fast

This boy has been doing lots of eating and sleeping this week, and I've concluded that he is hitting a growth spurt. I'm not sure how much he weighs, but I know it's a LOT!
Sweet David, you're growing TOO fast! Slow down!!

OCD much?

Last week, Jon did a little experiment to see how OCD his wife is. He put this little Coke bottle up on the top shelf of the built-ins to see how long before I noticed and took it down. It took me about 10 minutes to notice. However, just to prove him wrong, I resisted the compulsion to immediately put it in it's proper place (the recycle bin!) and I left it there overnight.
The next day, though, my son noticed it and climbed up to the top to get it down and put it away. He informed me that it does NOT go there. :-)

Sweet Siblings

We all are so happy to have David in our family! The kids are adjusting well, though they need to be reminded often to not hover constantly and to leave him alone with he is sleeping.
Sweet baby boy!

Kate reads a night-night story to her baby brother.

Michael imparts some big-brother wisdom..

Kate tries to coax a smile.

Michael tells David all about airplanes.

The Princess & The Superhero

My kids love to dress up.
I'm wondering if it makes me a bad parent that I didn't even bother to get my kids dressed this morning yet (it's 10:20am!). I just put their dress-up clothes right over their jammies. I guess I've dressed them already, just not in "real" clothes. :-)

A FAIR is a VERitable Schmorgasboard-orgasboard-orgasboard

Yesterday was $2 admission night at the Fredericksburg Agricultural Fair, so we took the kids out for night of fun!
This is the aerial view of the fair from the top of the Ferris Wheel.

Michael loved the animals, and kept asking where the *REAL* Wilbur was. We determined that the pig above was Wilbur (even though he was shy and didn't talk).

Michael enjoyed the animals. Kate didn't want to be near them or touch them at all. We determined that these cows looked more like Cebus with their ribs showing.

They enjoyed an ambulance tour.

And watched a camel ride.

The Ferris Wheel was SO high! They had a smaller one, but Michael wanted to ride the BIG one. He's a little daredevil. I love the thrill rides, and Jon *thought* that he did, too (but I won't tell you how gray and pukey he looked after he and I rode the graviton...) ;-)

Kate, on the other hand, is quite the chicken. The look on her face shows that she's a little leery of things that go high or fast. I did ride with her on the little roller coaster later, and she really enjoyed that one.

There was a chainsaw artist creating sculptures in chunks of wood. Cool to watch if the wind doesn't pick up and blow sawdust in your eyes.

The policeman let Michael sit in his car. He LOVED it!

Despite Kate's expressions, she really DID have fun!

And this sweet boy was a perfect angel the whole time. What a fun night!!

Engagement Anniversary

July 31st, 2002, Jon asked me to be his wife. Yesterday, on the 8 year anniversary of our engagement, Jon surprised me with a date to the same place we went when we were engaged!
We started out with an Italian dinner at Landini Brothers Restaurant in Olde Towne Alexandria.

And as we were parking, we saw the bat mobile.

I had the Suprema di Pollo alla Sisciliana (which I didn't even try to pronounce) -pictured above-, which was a sauted chicken with peppers, onions, and tomatoes. Delicious! I might experiment and try to recreate it. Jon had the Veal Scaloppini, which he really enjoyed, too.

After dinner, we went to the docks and enjoyed a lovely 75 degree evening.

This is the bench where Jon proposed. I was sitting down, and he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said "yes!" I suspected something was coming because he was stalling, and I wanted to hurry and get back to the car before 11pm so we didn't have to pay extra for parking. :-) The ring Jon gave me belonged to his grandmother, and was given to her as an anniversary gift. His grandfather was a preacher, and when he asked his future wife to marry him, they didn't have any money. They went to the dime store and got her a cheap ring, and after many years of marriage, he got her a beautiful engagement ring. I'm blessed to have that symbol of long-lasting love on my hand now!

8 years and 3 beautiful children later, I'm more in love with this man than I was when I promised to marry him!
Our precious 11-day-old baby came along with us, and he was perfectly well-behaved the entire time. Thanks so much to my friend Nancy for watching the big kids for us so we could enjoy our special evening!!

Good Eats

A few of our favorite things-
Michael pretty much enjoys all things food, but has especially been enjoying garden-fresh tomatoes. Cheryl from my Bible study class was kind enough to bring some fresh tomatoes from her garden (along with some cucumbers) when she brought us dinner on Friday, and Michael chowed down on the majority of them.
I have to mention how wonderfully loving, generous, and thoughtful people have been (especially those in my Bible study class!) in taking care of us since David was born. So many notes, texts, meals, and cards- we are overwhelmed at how loved we feel! Thank you all!!

Katie LOVES yogurt, and in true girlie fashion, always asks for pink yogurt. I think it could taste like broccoli, but if it were pink, she would eat it.

And this sweet guy hasn't discovered anything past the milk and the paci, but I'm pretty sure he's going to be a big eater like his daddy and big brother!
