This is Djondarly Cherestal. He is an orphan in Haiti, abandoned by his parents, but taken into the Martinson's orphanage called Operation Love the Children of Haiti. Our family is sponsoring Djondarly to help with his basic needs of food, vitamins, medical care, and schooling.
"His mom brought him to us having no means to care for him. He was starving for attention. After spending some time with us at OLTCH, we have discovered he is a lively little boy. He loves playing with trucks, and is growing more and more confident as he is reassured with TLC. Djon Darley loves to eat, he can never get enough. He is best friends with Jethroson."
I first came across OLTCH when a facebook friend from college and fellow RN posted about an expectant mother who had come to the orphanage that night to deliver her baby and to leave him there, since she had no means to care for the baby. I can't imagine what these moms must go through to pass their children along for someone else to care for. I headed over to the website and ended up sitting in my chair weeping over the orphans in Haiti- most are abandoned, many abused, but all experiencing the effects of poverty. It's a little overwhelming to think that it could be my family who was born in a 3rd world country with no education and no available work to provide the basics of food and shelter. I want my children (and me, too) to grow up with love and compassion for others, especially for those less fortunate. We've been blessed beyond measure, and it's only by grace that we are not in the same situation. I would love to bring all these children home with me! We can't help them all, but we can definitely help one. So we will support, love, and pray for Djondarly, and maybe someday meet him in person.
