Grandma and Grandpa Visit

We had a wonderful time visiting with Jon's parents.
They are very patient with the kids, especially when Kate brings yet another book!

We went on a few adventures- Chickfila, CYT show, and the Marine Corps Museum.  This was their first visit, and though we have been many times, Michael still says it's one of his favorite places to visit.

We enjoyed all the well-done exhibits and a good video presentation

Happy 50th Anniversary

My in-laws visited us this past week and were able to be here on their official 50th anniversary!

50 wonderful years

CYT Mulan

On Saturday, we went to see CYT's Mulan Jr with Grandma and Aunt Meredith and Cousins Erica and Olivia.
The kids really enjoyed it, and our friends who were in the show did such a great job!
Kate's looking sad, but she did enjoy it.  :-)  The production was at one of the local high schools, and this knight is their mascot.

This Little Cutie such a joy!
And he's so observant.  If anything changes in the house, even a minor thing, he will sit by it and point for a while until I acknowledge that he noticed.

I let David feed himself spaghetti for the first time this week.  If you know me, you know that this is a very difficult thing for me.  I think messy self-feeding is one of the most unpleasant stages.

On the Go

David loves to cruise.  He can often be found hanging on to the couch or table while he walks around.  He hasn't let go yet, but he's getting stronger and braver as the days go by.
He really has been enjoying pushing the hippo around the house.  He can get going rather fast.

This boy is such a joy!  And I am in AWE at how fast this last year has passed!!

Summer Adventures

We have had a very busy couple of weeks, and this is what has occupied our time in recent days:
A wedding (it was a long day, but the kids did GREAT)

"Even this one!"  David was such an angel during the ceremony and reception activities.

Michael enjoyed the reception festivities, especially the chocolate fountain.

Grandma and Grandpa are here to visit, which we are greatly enjoying!

And the kids have VBS in the evenings.
In addition to working at the hospital, trips to the library, entertaining, Bible study, a funeral viewing, celebrating Father's Day and my sister's birthday- we are savoring our summer and enjoying our busy-ness to its fullest.

Deep Sea Divers

Our frog pool had an unfortunate accident, so we replaced it with this cool snake pool.  The kids picked it out (yes, Kate, too!), and they have been using it to cool off on hot days.
Now they have goggles, so they can see all the underwater creatures and explore the depths.

The Long-Awaited Concerto

Turn DOWN your speakers, folks.  This is lovely only to a mother's ears.
The kids really did practice for a while to put this show on for me.  I am honored to have it especially prepared for me (even if Michael DID play in Demo mode). :-)

I have been grilling quite a bit lately, but when I went out on Wednesday morning, I was in for a surprise.
See the grill.  See the drip pan under the main grill part?  See the mat that I purchased to protect the wood from grease spills?

See the paw prints of some nasty vermin that decided to snack on the grease?!  I'm guessing raccoon or cat by the paw prints.  Solutions anyone??

Green beans, 12 corn, white potatoes, 4 tomatoes, 3 green tomatoes, 3 large cukes, bunch of carrots, pint of blueberries, half pint of blackberries, 6 yellow squash, 4 green zucchini

Bug Collectors

The kids have been collecting bugs a lot recently, and (until an unfortunate, glass-shattering accident at the park today) had quite a variety in there.  A dragonfly (who was "sleeping" -for 3 days), a granddaddy long leg,  some kind of fuzzy creature, a tiny spider, and a fly (who should be called a "walk."  Michael pulled his wings off so he couldn't escape and so "Mommy wouldn't be scared by the bugs in the house".  Chivalrous, kind of...)

How Time Flies!

How can this baby possibly be turning ONE YEAR next month?
David, I blinked and the year went by.  Slow down, please!!

Out of Doors

We have had beautiful weather this week, and we've been squeezing every possible moment we can outside.  If we're not at the park or on errands, we've been out on the deck.
The kids have had fun searching and exploring and enjoying the sunshine.

Notice all the chalk on the side of the deck?  It's "decorations" for a big outdoor concert that the kids have been preparing.

Complete with instruments and such- I'm talking a full fledged concert.  Maybe it will turn into a summer concert series.  Who knows?
Kate decorated the rails so diligently one morning.
 Can't wait to hear it!!

Sweet Morning Sunshine

This precious girl is always the first kid up in our family.
She can't wait for the day to start, and waits expectantly until she hears the first stirring in the nursery so she can say/shriek "Good morning" to her baby brother.  She always wakes up happy in the morning, and I'm always blessed by her sweet, smiling face first thing (even if I did work the night before).

T-Ball Trophies

Michael had his end-of-season t-ball party today, and he had a wonderful time.
All the boys (and 2 girls) had lots of fun.

We had a cookout with great food and enjoyable company.

And Michael got his precious trophy.  He has been wanting a trophy since his first practice, and he constantly asked his coach for the trophy from the moment he got to the park until they were handed out.  He's so excited about it, and now wants a shelf in his room solely for his trophy.

Summer Fun

The high today was 103, so we cooled off outside in the froggy pool.
Michael and Kate played for HOURS.  I had to remind them to eat at lunch time (they are usually begging to eat by noon!)

David was not happy about the pool at first.

Then he got acclimated to the water, and he had a great time.  They didn't play all crowded in the pool like this the whole time.  The big kids were running through the sprinkler most of the time.  I even took an occasional stroll through the sprinkler, and I don't really like to get wet.  It was just that hot.

CSA Week 6 (plus menu)

Another good week from our C&T Produce CSA share.  We're pretty excited that green beans and blueberries are now in season!!
3 new red onions, 3 beets, new potatoes, 4 yellow zucchini, 5 green zucchini, 15 squash, 7 cucumbers, pint of blueberries, 4 tomatoes, green beans

Here's the menu for the week:
WEDNESDAY: Burgers, beans, grilled squash and zucchini, Cuke sticks and ranch dip
THURSDAY: Grilled BBQ chicken, beats (with salt and butter), squash casserole, grilled Parmesan potatoes,
FRIDAY: Leftovers (Youth Group Toss night)
SATURDAY:  (Michael's t-ball party) chips, Sandwiches, pasta Salad, grilled zucchini/squash/onion
SUNDAY: pizza and salad
MONDAY: Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green bean bundles
TUESDAY: Sandwiches/Leftovers, Italian Cucumber Salad, any leftover veggies

Snacking While Nebbing

David woke up with a nasty wheezy cough on Monday, so we have been having some nebulizer/snuggle time lately.  David usually eats a snack while I strategically place the aerosol medicine discreetly near his nose.  The combo neb (the bronchodilator plus steroid) takes about half an hour, so this is sometimes a challenge to distract him for that long.
Sometimes I make silly faces or sing songs, etc.  (really effective by the look on his face, right...?)

Weekend Company

This weekend, we were able to have the Heritage Singers from Maranatha College in our home.
We really enjoyed getting to know the boys (the girls stayed with another family).  It was great talking with them, finding out a little about them, and enjoying some late-night grilled burgers.  Learning a little of their personalities was fun- the Type A OCD guy who loved to iron, the "Math-lete" who scored a 35 out of 36 on the ACT, the guy who loved anything BBQ and told fun stories, and the health-nut who looked striking like a guy we went to college with a decade or so ago.
You can follow their blog to read about their summer adventures.
Thanks for being a blessing to our family, guys!!

Fire Dept Day

The White Oak Volunteer Fire Dept had an open house on Saturday, so we took the kids for some fun and food before heading out on a couple errands.
Sparky the fire dog was there.  Michael was leery, Kate just wanted to give him a continuous hug, and David was curious about the huge stuffed animal.

Michael enjoyed playing in the fire engine and trying on the gas mask.

The fire truck tire is taller than Kate.

David wore this hat for about 3 seconds before snagging it and trying to snack on it.

The kids had the most fun on the moon bounce.  Luckily, we got there as most of the people were leaving, so it wasn't overly crowded in there.

Dinner Out

We use our grill heavily ("we" meaning "me."  I've been trying to talk Jon into doing the grilling since we've been married.  He prefers to be proficient at the microwave), and we have been eating dinner on our deck a lot.
Michael discovered that corn on the cob is very difficult with loose front teeth.

David just loves to eat any time.  And he's pretty much happy all the time, too.

No pictures of Kate at dinner, since she wouldn't eat.  She sure does love to be outside, though.  She loves sidewalk chalk and paint, jumping on the trampoline, running through the sprinkler, but, most of all, picking tiny flowers from the yard.  Sweet girl.

Howdy, Y'all

Howdy, Little Ladies
They call me David.

And this is my posse

(This is our version of indoor trampoline.  David was doing his own little jump in his crib.  So cute!)

Swiss chard, green sweet onions, 10 summer squash, 6 green zucchini, 6 yellow zucchini, 4 large cucumbers, 6 little cucumbers, 5 tomatoes, and a bunch of new potatoes.  I bought the vidalia onions extra, since they really make the grilled veggies extra yummy when they cook down and caramelize.

THURSDAY: Grilled chicken sandwiches, grilled zucchini/squash/onions*, corn on the cob
