I found a skateboard for Michael at Goodwill today ($2.99, thankyouverymuch), and he is learning that it's a lot harder than it looks to skateboard. He asked me to take this a picture of him holding his skateboard like this:
because he said that makes him look like a teenager. :-)
Michael and Kate are opposite when it comes to what they consider "fun."
Kate loves to swing so slowly and gently, and "not too high," all while wearing a dress and a bow. Of note, today she started out in jeans, but just couldn't bear it any longer and asked if she could "please go get pretty after lunch."
Michael, on the other hand, likes to go as high as he possibly can.
He can really get this thing going. Adrenaline junkie.
(and it was almost 70 degrees out today, so we read on the deck).
Even David enjoys them (though we did have a mishap last month in which he de-paged a book. I was fully ready to pay for the book, but the kind folks at the library said it was easily repairable and waived a fine.)
Michael is an excellent reader. He is reading Level 3 Scholastic books and is at a guided reading level of O. He's a quick learner, so reading was not too hard for him. He loves books.
Kate is learning to put simple, short-vowel words together. She will be so excited when she can read Fancy Nancy on her own.
David loves to look at pictures. He enjoys turning the pages, and he adores anything with trucks, balls, or dogs.
David had his 18mo check-up today (one month late- oops!), and he is doing great.
He is talking quite well for his age and is growing nicely. He has all his teeth except the 2yr molars, which he is working on. He's also working on his Terrible Two attitude. His ears are clear (thank you, ear tubes!), and he got a HepA and a DTaP vaccine.
It's no secret that I'm not a fan of the cold weather, especially when it involves cold precipitation. Luckily, Jon is from the midwest and enjoys the cold. While Kate and I were enjoying our Girls' Day, the boys had some fun in the snow.
The snow just starting to stick. We ended up with a couple inches total.
Despite that big smile (can you see the remnants of whatever he was eating on his face?!), this big guy was not feeling so well.
I took Michael to the pediatrician since I could tell it wasn't just a virus to get over. He had a double ear infection, a sinus infection, a throat infection (strep, probably), an eye infection, an upper respiratory infection, and an infected thumb (he pulled a hangnail and it got swollen and nasty and he wouldn't stop picking at it). So, he's on a very strong antibiotic and neb treatments. Let's just say that Michael doesn't do anything half-way. He's all-in, even when he's sick.
It didn't take long on that strong antibiotic for him to start feeling better.
He already has his abundant energy back. I'm thankful he's feeling better!
Kate had her 4-year-old check-up yesterday, and she is doing great.
She has great vision (which I hope continues, since her Mommy has bad eye genes), and she did well on all her developmental assessments. She is really a healthy child. She's never even been on an antibiotic, and we're thankful for that (especially since the boys have more than made up the sick visits with their ears).
Kate was in the 67th percentile for weight at 39lbs, and in the 68th percentile for height at 41.5 inches. Our little girl is growing up. In fact, even though she will not be going to school for another year and a half since she has an October birthday, they went ahead and did all her pre-kindergarten vaccines and assessments. (She was so brave through 4 shots!) I'm glad she gets to stay home with me another year, though!
Kate made a Valentine for her Daddy. She decided to include something he REALLY likes, so she drew a picture of some Coca-Cola. She even labeled in "coke," in case he didn't know what that brown pile was.
I talked her into including a *real* Coke with the valentine. :-)
We had a little extra time before bedtime the other day, so I let the kids watch a PBS show. They were pretty engrossed. Kate didn't want her picture taken, so she showed her tongue. Michael, apparently, didn't wipe his face well after spaghetti. David just rolls along with it.
