It's been critter heaven for the kids thus summer- cicadas, frogs, lizards, birds, and we have a rabbit living under our deck. The kids love all the exploring and finding.

Michael wrote this original creative piece in his writing journal, and he read it for the class and parents. Can you tell that Michael is the class clown??
"I have a duck. His name is Mr Duck with an afro. He lives in my sister's ear. He is good at making pizza out of gym shorts. He is very cool. He made a planet out of banana peels. He made a chainsaw out of leaves. He is creepy. He is 4 years old."
Saturday, the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad had a fun-filled day of activities at the park. The kids enjoyed all sorts of fun activities. I had to laugh when I saw one other mother who we both recognized from attending all the free events in the area. She mentioned that we must be on the same "kid-friendly and free" activity circuit.

Kate can get some real height when she jumps.
It was kid of hot and humid, but it was enough outdoor fun to wear the kids out for Daddy before I went to work 3-11.
On Friday, we enjoyed the Sounds of Summer concert series again at the Fredericksburg Museum and Cultural Center. The Air Force Blue Aces played a variety of musical numbers, and we had fun relaxing on a lovely night.
The Blakemore 3

Last time we went, a split second of inattention from mom and dad, and Michael wandered around the corner with David to explore an old church cemetery. It was the most frightening 3 minutes of my life. No wandering this time, thankfully!!
Getting some excess energy out.
Posing. David mimicking
We went to Hurkamp Park after a walk in downtown Fredericksburg, and we caught some fireflies. Good Friday night!
Our great library has a lot of activities for the kids over the summer. The first of the summer activities was an interactive class on archaeology, brought by the George Washington Foundation that leads the archaeological digs at Ferry Farm here in Stafford.
The kids got to handle real relics found buried at George's boyhood home. Very cool.

Michael and David are exact opposites in the morning. David is excited for the opportunity to get up, while Michael is always looking for just a little bit longer to sleep. Someday, when he is older, I will introduce Michael to coffee, and mornings will be a little less harsh.

Michael had his last baseball game of the season on Saturday, and he got his precious trophy. He was very proud.
Michael started off the season having a very difficult time hitting the ball. He got very frustrated, and he did not even want to go to games. Jon spent some time working with him, and bought him a bat, and by the end of the season, he was getting a hit almost every time he got up. It is definitely different with machine pitch baseball.
