Michael Turns 9!

On November 30th, Michael celebrated his 9th birthday!  We had a small party for him, and he said it was his best birthday yet.
Last year in single digits, and half-way to an adult!
Michael, you are smart and intense, and you keep us on our toes.  Your quirky sense of humor with constant play-on-words keeps us all laughing.  We love you so much, Michael!

Michael has been doing well in school.  He got 1st place among 3rd grade classes in the WordMasters challenge, a verbal reasoning and analogy competition.  He also got 1st place in his class Math Challenge.  Nice work, Michael.

Thanksgiving 2014

We were supposed to visit my family for Thanksgiving, but the snow over the mountains prohibited our travels, and we were not able to go.
We stayed home and had brunch instead of a Thanksgiving meal.

Bacon, biscuits & gravy, eggs, waffles, and cinnamon chip scones.

Thanksgiving evening, we were going to take the kids to see Big Hero 6, since they were sad that we were unable to travel.  We went to the theater, but the show was sold out.  So we went and hung out at the Books-a-Million store, which we love.

More November Happenings

David still likes to come down and snuggle in the morning.  He had another ear infections, and we are thankful for insurance and for antibiotics.

Michael got to attend this book signing for author Jeff Kinney of Diary of a Wimpy Kid fame.  He enjoyed meeting him and getting his autograph.  Photo link here

David enjoys trips to Books-a-Million

The kids have started a propaganda campaign to get a dog.  Not going to happen!

Kate and I were invited to a birthday party for a lovely young lady who had a Wine & Design event.  We had a template, and the host artist talked us through the technique.  This above picture is mine.

Kate went with her own concept and made a female scientist looking into a microscope.  It's suppsed to look like my painting above...

One of these paintings is not like the other...

 Wrestle time with Daddy.

The kids had awards ceremonies, and Kate won a perfect attendance award.

Michael also won a perfect attendance award, plus an excellence in reading award.

Kate brought this home from school.  She wants to be a mom when she grows up.  It makes her happy to think about it.  Awe!

Love these guys!

Concert in Lights 2014

We went to the Concert in Lights program at our Towne Center, and we enjoyed kicking off the holidays that way.
It was cold, but enjoyable.

Free kettle corn was yummy!

Cotton Candy.  This was David's first time trying cotton candy, and he did not like it.  Kate ate a little, then passed it on.  Michael devoured it.

Some band headed for Nashville

 Kids playing on the green

Kate chose to have her hand painted.

I guess we should get her a dreidel for Hanukkah?

Interactive light structures

Followed but a light and music show.
A lovely time, indeed!

Life Going On

We've been busy with life (and negligent bloggers)
 And we're tired.

But we are enjoy our kids growing up.  Hopefully not as big as this bear.

The hair continues to grow

and be cut.

Miss Mary and her sweet girl Zoey have been helping us out during those couple hours between when I go to work and Jon gets home.  She has been a wonderful blessing (and David adores Zoey!)

Kate has been sewing occasionally with a co-worker who is an excellent quilter.  Kate entered a Jr Sewing Contest and won First Runner Up with her layered potholder.  She won some gifts and a $50 cash prize!

Family game night, because it's easy to get busy going and doing instead of being with each other and having fun.
